You just received a text about your loved one who has died, why is someone contacting me?

  • The medical examiner has identified you as the next of kin for someone who has died

  • We are contacting you to offer support and an opportunity to talk.

  • Our service is listening to you share the story of the person who has died, from your perspective.

  • Our conversations are not intended to be therapeutic, just an opportunity to talk about the persons who has died.

  • Your perspective is valuable and we hope to learn more about the lives of people and where support and resources will be the most effective to help others.

Why should I participate?

  • After our interviews, people report that they have an improved understanding about the many reasons that contributed to the person’s death.

  • We have a clear format of discussion topics, for example:

    • Describe what made them happy? What were their passions? What was difficult for them? What was their childhood experience? Adolescence? Education? Substance use? Religion? etc …

  • Some people around you have moved on with life or expect you to be better by now. We offer the space to talk and be heard about a subject that some will try to avoid with you.

  • Your perspective will give valuable guidance toward the development and timing of resources and programs designed to help people live fulfilling and long lives.
